And I've been right where you are now.
I started out as the partner in the passenger seat - I’d get the occasional turn at the helm, but never enough to really feel confident in charge.
I realised if I really wanted to learn and progress, I had to do it for myself. So, I bought my own boat. I made my own mistakes. And I upskilled - fast.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to learn from some incredible skippers and legendary fishermen. But it hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to work hard to get the opportunities I’ve had, and put up with my fair share of hurdles along the way.
That’s not how I want it to be for other women.
I want to break down the barriers that keep women from taking the helm. I want more female skippers on the water, because every time a woman runs a boat, she opens the door for other women to get on board, gain experience and build the confidence to do it herself.
She’s Got Game was created to make that happen. My coaching is about sharing knowledge without ego, creating a space where women can try, learn and take the helm with confidence.
I grew up in, on and around the water in Scotland - canoeing, sailing, jumping off wharves... My outdoorsy parents taught me early that there's no such thing as "boys' sports" and "girls' sports", and I always found it much more fun doing the stuff society said I wasn't supposed to do!
I moved to New Zealand in my mid 20s and got into yacht racing and game fishing. But being female I had to work hard for every opportunity I got. So I bought my own boats, made my own mistakes, and learned everything I could from those good enough to teach me.
I’ve crewed on game fishing charters, skippered my own yacht offshore, and now run my dream boat - an AMF 610 ProSport - chasing big fish around the coast. Along the way, I’ve seen how much passion women have for fishing and boating, and how much it's stifled by lack of opportunity in these male-dominated spaces.
She’s Got Game exists to give women those opportunities. I provide a safe, supportive space for you to practice, learn, and grow your skills and confidence. I firmly believe every women has what it takes - I’m just here to help you find it.
Rest assured: I treat your boat with the same care I treat my own. But I also understand it's essential to gain the trust of your partner or family who’ll be handing you the keys to the boat. To that end, I currently hold:
You’re smart. You're capable. And you’re not afraid to try.
You’ve just never been given the space to learn in a way that works for you - without pressure, judgment, or a guy hovering over your shoulder.
Now’s the time to change that.
